Chlamydia-introduction

Chlamydia is a bacterial infection that can infect the penis, vagina, cervix, anus, urethra, eyes or throat. Symptoms of chlamydia are often mild or non-existent, and while chlamydia can be treated, it often goes undiagnosed and therefore untreated. Untreated Chlamydial infections can result in serious complications including infertility.

It is actually a group of different infections caused by different strains of the Chlamydia bacterium:

Chlamydia pneumonia causes a type of walking pneumonia
Chlamydia psittaci causes a type of pneumonia caused by birds
Chlamydia trachomatis causes various sexually transmitted diseases
Chlamydia trachomatis is currently one of the most common and widespread bacterial STDs in the United States. It is estimated that more than 4 million people are infected each year. Rates of Chlamydia in the United States are highest in the West and Midwest, with Missouri having above average numbers.

Chlamydia may cause infertility in men as well as long-term health problems for women.

What are the main causes of Chlamydia?

Chlamydia is an infection caused by the bacterium Chlamydia trachomatis.
(Chlamydia trachomatis ) is a bacterium that causes an infection that is very similar to gonorrhea in the way that it is spread and the symptoms it produces. It is common and affects approximately 4 million women annually.

The chlamydia bacterium is found in the cervix and urethra and can live in the throat or rectum.

The infection is transmitted in 2 ways:

From one person to another by close personal contact such as through sexual intercourse (not by casual contact such as a handshake).

From mother to child with passage of the child through the birth canal. Chlamydia can cause pneumonia or serious eye infections in a newborn, especially among children born to infected mothers in developing countries.

Chlamydial infections can be cured with antibiotics, but you must go to the doctor to be diagnosed, because chlamydia usually has no signs or symptoms. If you test positive for the infection, the doctor will prescribe the correct medication for it. You should also contact all of your sexual partners and tell them that you have chlamydia so that they can be tested. Make sure you use a condom every time you have sex.

You can spread chlamydia even if you do not have symptoms of infection. You can spread the infection until you have been treated.

The condition most commonly spreads through sexual intercourse and other intimate contact between genitals and the rectal area. It's also possible for a mother to spread chlamydia to her child during delivery, causing pneumonia or a serious eye infection.

Some other reasons of causing chlamydia:

Chlamydia is a venereal disease which is usually transmitted by sexual activity.
Semen from the penis, vaginal fluid, and blood can carry the bacteria that causes the infection.

The bacteria can enter the body of a person through contact with these fluids.
An infected mother can also pass chlamydia to her baby during childbirth. Babies born to infected mothers can get pneumonia or infections in their eyes, also called conjunctivitis.
